Every ad pulled from Meta's and Google's public ad libraries.
Near-identical variants folded into 3,121 distinct concepts.
Each classified on one rubric: moment, promise, proof, emotion, audience.
Every buying moment scored: crowded? winnable? real search demand?
38% of all creative chases thinning and its life-stage triggers, and in that territory fear and distrust outnumber joy nearly 5:1 — almost all of it DTC and gray market. The proactive ritual Najeau was built for has 0.9% creative coverage and no owner. Act I ↗
53% of concepts show no proof; 519 claim "science-backed" but only 155 display a result. Najeau's three strongest proofs — a colorist founder (founder stories: 2 of 3,121 ads), her 20-year credential, and single-origin Qadisha Valley olive oil — are unclaimed by anyone. Act III ↗
Successful competitors put 54–75% of ad weight behind one hero product. Najeau's 30 Meta ads spread almost evenly across five products — and Follicle Drops, the presumed hero, gets the fewest (4 ads, vs 6 for the mask) — while its own Google account already leans Drops. The Method is the story — Drops is the door. Act IV ↗
Normally, big demand means expensive, crowded ads — thinning's 155K monthly searches cost $2.70 a click with 100+ advertisers fighting. Scalp discomfort breaks the rule: 99K people searching every month, clicks at $0.78, and almost nobody advertising to them — because growth brands only talk scalp to sell regrowth, and drugstore dandruff brands don't play in premium. Najeau is nearly alone in being built for exactly what these people are asking for. Act II ↗
Nine brands now borrow scalp-first language — Philip Kingsley leads it clinically — but for each it's under 1% of their creative, while Najeau stakes 25% of its ads on it. The words can be copied tomorrow; the combination can't: a named Method × a warm ritual register × a colorist founder × provenance. The combination is the moat. Act IV ↗
The analysis unfolds in four acts: the category, the territory map, the proof gap, and Najeau in the mirror. Each tile below is a chapter.

Meta ads were attributed to brands by destination domain, which is how KilgourMD's twelve persona pages (e.g. "Jessica Soares", "GLP-1 Hair Loss Help") resolve to one advertiser. Ad libraries show what runs, not what converts — Google served-days is the only longevity proxy, and all reads are directional. Demand layer: Semrush US search volumes and CPCs (167 keywords across the 13 territories, pulled 2026-07-08) power the territory map and channel stacks.
One buying situation — the moment someone notices thinning — absorbs 25% of all creative concepts (19 brands + 86 gray-market advertisers); with its life-stage satellites (menopause 6%, GLP-1 5%, postpartum 2%), the anxiety cluster reaches 38%. The tell: it is almost entirely DTC and gray market — the prestige tier (Aveda, Kérastase, Oribe, OUAI, Living Proof) barely touches it, splitting the category into an anxiety machine and an aesthetic machine, with the scalp-health middle thinly held. The default authority is the dermatologist (338 concepts vs 109 stylist, 2 founder-story), 53% of everything runs proof-free, and beneath the brands sits a gray market of fake doctor personas and confession advertorials that KilgourMD has semi-legitimized — 2,349 Meta ads through twelve page identities.

Concept counts per brand per situation; deeper clay = heavier investment. The category piles onto four anxiety territories — the bottom rows are the open ground.
This map answers the question the whole analysis exists for: where should Najeau play? Every bubble is a moment that sends someone shopping for hair care. The territories worth taking sit high (Najeau can credibly win them) and left (few competitors are there) — with a big bubble (real people actually searching).
What to notice first: the giant clay bubble — thinning, 155K searches a month — costs $2.70 a click in a fight Najeau can't claim-win. Scalp discomfort is the anomaly: 99K searches a month, the cheapest clicks in the set, and almost nobody advertising to it. Hover or tap any bubble for its full scorecard.
The whole category monetizes crisis; nobody owns before. "Ritual" appears only as texture (Ceremonia, Fable & Mane, now Kérastase/Aveda too) or as gray-market crisis bait — never as a claimed start-before-the-problem position. Nine brands brush it; none owns it. Najeau's founding thesis remains unoccupied.
Still effectively Davines alone — even Kérastase, the color-care giant, runs no color-protection-moment creative anywhere in the 16,234 ads analyzed. Najeau's founder is a celebrity colorist. The single strongest right-to-win on the map: no other brand in the set was built by a celebrity colorist — the person color clients already trust with their hair.
Brands like Nutrafol and Divi mention the scalp only as the route to regrowth — “healthy scalp, fuller hair” — never as a problem worth solving in its own right. So the actual discomfort moment (itch, flakes, buildup) goes largely unserved. One prestige brand is the real occupant: Philip Kingsley now leads the territory (15 concepts; its Flaky Scalp shampoo search ad has run 771 days) — trichologist-authority capture, no ritual, no provenance. Najeau's own "Dandruff vs Dry Scalp" ad has run even longer (949 days — though in a set-and-forget PMax, so longevity here isn't performance evidence), and the moment still has no Meta-video owner.
A crowded convention (9 brands), mostly pleasant assertion. A colorist-demonstrated pre-wash oil Treat step wins with evidence instead of adjectives.
The sleeper — now contested: prestige brands — OUAI (destination-scent mists, "#1 most requested scent") and Aveda — are already advertising the scent moment (11 brands, 56 concepts — and 10 of the 70 top-impression prestige Meta ads are scent-led). Demand is still under-captured, but the creative lane is no longer empty. Najeau's version — Lebanon, ritual, olive-oil provenance — remains distinct from OUAI's vacation-scent code. Revisit at the day-90 read.

View the live ad ↗Scalp-first — Najeau's natural message — is claimed in 26 of 3,121 concepts (0.8%). The prestige tier adds real claimants (Philip Kingsley, Kérastase, Oribe, Living Proof, Nécessaire), so the message alone no longer differentiates: the Method + ritual + provenance combination is what stays unclaimed.
"Clinically proven" is verbal wallpaper — free to type, typed by the gray market too, and pre-discounted by the audience. The bar for actually out-proving the category is low: one real number with a real methodology ("97% felt their scalp was less dry · 8-week consumer trial") clears what roughly 70% of science-claimers never show. Specificity is the trust currency. (Text-based read; video ads flashing on-screen claims are undercounted — the gap is directional.)
Rosemary and batana oils are gray-market commodities; a single-origin heritage story is not. The opportunity is to leverage at least one element of this stack in advertising.

View the live ad ↗Fear and distrust outnumber joy nearly 5:1 (4.6:1) in growth-adjacent creative; joy lives only in styling and luxury. A warm, ritual-led voice in the growth conversation is an open emotional lane — and it is the lane Najeau's brand already speaks.
Najeau's own 55 ads (30 Meta since June 18 + 25 Google running 400–1,233 days → 32 concepts) classified on the same schema. Share of concepts per tag: olive = Najeau, sand = 24 competitive brands. Tinted rows: olive = genuinely owned, clay = gap.

Nine brands mention scalp-first — for each it's a sliver of their creative (26 concepts across 3,121). Najeau leads with it: 25% of its own ads — "Your scalp is skin, too." Najeau owns the commitment, not the copyright — which is why the defensible position is the combination: scalp-first × named Method × ritual register × provenance.
"Dandruff vs Dry Scalp" (949 days), frizz-oiling (797), olive-oil content (604) match the category's long-runner profile — educational, ingredient-led. Caveat: these ran in a lightly-managed PMax, so their longevity signals consistent positioning, not proven performance.
72% of Najeau ad copy runs proof-free. A visual audit of the live account shows the strongest assets — the before/after scalp split and the 97% stat — do exist, but carry a fraction of the weight while generic sensory lines ("softness you can feel") get equal billing. Nina's credential and the Qadisha Valley provenance appear in no ad copy at all.
Zero ads in prevention ritual and color protection — the two highest-scoring territories. Most Meta ads open with product statements, not hooks; 10% video in a video-led category.
“Scalp Relief — in our consumer trial, 97% felt their scalp was significantly less dry at 8 weeks.”

| Nécessaire | Rosemary hair line | 26 Google mentions (405d); body-care creative dominates the account overall | Medium |
| Nutrafol | Supplements (life-stage formulas) | 1,157 of 2,545 Google ads vs 62 for the serum; Meta URLs concealed | Very high |
| Oribe | Gold Lust franchise | 63 Google mentions (357d); top Meta ads route to Supershine / bestsellers collections | High |
| OUAI | Scent-led: hair & body mists | 23 Google mentions incl. the 540d Jen Atkin ad; top Meta ads are mists + the DedCool detergent collab | Medium-high |

| RŌZ | Milk Hair Serum | 54% of Meta URL weight; Google small and spread | High (Meta-led) |
| SEEN | Skin-safe shampoo & conditioner | Google-only: 16 mentions, fragrance-free / derm-founded claims on 973d runners | Medium |
| Vegamour | GRO routine/system, weakly serum-led | Meta thin (16 linked ads, kit leads); Google splits supplements / kits / serum almost evenly | Medium |
| Gray market | Funnel conceals the SKU by design | Persona pages → advertorial → landing funnel across 164 domains | Structural |
| Najeau | Diffuse by accident, not by design | Meta spreads flat (mask 6 · Copper Sequence 5 · shampoo 5 · conditioner 5 · Drops 4) while Google already leans Drops (named in 44% of its ads). Two platforms, two hero stories — and the category's winning pattern is concentration behind one hero SKU | High that it's diffuse |
Two evidence layers: Meta destination URLs (where paid clicks route) × Google ad-text mentions (what search creative sells). Full row-level evidence with verifiable ad links in Najeau_Creative_Evidence.csv. Inferred heroes, not proven sellers — ad libraries show investment, not conversion. Prestige Meta reads are top-10-by-impressions samples; SEEN and Briogeo are Google-only.
Every successful DTC brand puts 54–75% of its ad weight behind one hero SKU routed to its own product page — Divi (scalp serum), Act+Acre (stem-cell serum), RŌZ (Milk serum). Nobody successfully acquires on a scattered SKU grid.
Kérastase routes all 10 of its top ads to one Sephora PDP; Living Proof routes to Amazon. Same concentration rule, different checkout. Their CPAs aren't comparable to Najeau's DTC economics — but their hero discipline is.
KilgourMD, Bello, MDhair, Musely and the gray market run zero product URLs — the story sells first, the SKU appears after the click. That's a funnel economy Najeau shouldn't join; it's also why their heroes can't be copied.
Najeau’s 30 Meta ads spread almost evenly across five products — Drops gets the fewest — while Google already leans Follicle Drops (named in 44% of its ads). The move: align Meta with Drops as the starring SKU inside the Method story — then let the destination test decide the click.
